Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and Ritsumeikan University recently held a meeting to explore ideas and explore directions in the fields of art and technology integration. The HKBU delegation, led by Mr Raymond Chan, Assistant Director (Entrepreneurship) of HKBU's Institute for Innovation, Translation and Policy Research, visited Ritsumeikan University for in-person discussions and exchanges. The delegation from Ritsumeikan University included Professor Ryoko Matsuba and Professor Yo Oshima from the College of Arts and Design, along with Mr Naoki Shibahara from the College's Development Office. Both sides engaged in constructive dialogues on the deep integration of creative arts and technological innovation.
Mr Raymond Chan provided a detailed introduction to the University's latest developments in art technology, highlighting the Jockey Club Creative Campus (JC3), officially launched in early 2025, and the HKBU Art Tech Incubation Hub CHRYSALIS. These advanced facilities showcase HKBU's outstanding achievements in digital arts, immersive experiences, and innovative technology applications, receiving high praise from the Ritsumeikan University delegation.
The Ritsumeikan University delegation shared their plans and vision for a new Art Centre planned for 2026. Professor Yo Oshima elaborated on interdisciplinary innovative projects combining art and health sciences, while Professor Ryoko Matsuba introduced research initiatives in media arts and related fields.
During the meeting, both parties discussed potential areas of interest, including art technology, creative projects, cross‑cultural exchange and cultural preservation. The discussion also emphasised leveraging Kyoto's rich artistic traditions alongside Hong Kong’s multicultural characteristics to open new possibilities for innovation.
The meeting fostered mutual understanding and set the stage for continued dialogue in arts and technology. The universities will explore new approaches, and help advance arts and technology education and innovation across Asia.
