Omics for Traditional Medicine Analysis: toward Nutritional and Clinical Applications

The Current Challenges

Traditional medicines are complex in chemical composition. It requires the deployment of cutting edge technology to reveal the active principles and their mechanisms of action.

Our Innovation and Breakthrough
  • Our innovative idea is to establish a rapid analysis platform using proteomics, metabolomics and network pharmacology.
  • Proteomics is used to examine the expressed proteins and protein functions.
  • Metabolomics furnishes metabolic information i.e. the consequence of the transcriptome and proteome. Thus, comprehensive analyses of data from proteomics and metabolomics studies can enable a view of the complex biological processes and activities of herbal compounds.
  • The systematic relationship among proteins, metabolites, and gut microbiota using  network pharmacology, metabolomics, and gut microbiota sequencing can be utilised to  unravel the active ingredients and their targets, and the mechanism of the therapeutic  action of the individual herbal compounds present.
  • Active extracts for developing functional food or health products can be identified.
  • It enable the provision of comprehensive omics data for development of traditional medicine products.

The Impact

The comprehensive omics data for the development of traditional medicine products can contribute to the standardisation and internationalisation of traditional medicine, benefiting human health.
