HKBU presents latest green technology innovations at Rethink HK 2024

16 Sep, 2024

HKBU participated in the sustainable business forum and solutions expo “Rethink HK 2024” from 12 to 13 September 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, showcasing the innovative green solutions to investors, innovators and experts. Mr Tobby Fu, Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Institute for Innovation, Translation and Policy Research, introduced HKBU’s green technology to Mr Tse Chin-wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology, along with Mr Edmond Lam, Director of the Knowledge Transfer Office.

HKBU’s booth presented technologies for green hydrogen production from waste, thermostable and energy-saving pigment coatings, and eco-friendly bioplastics production from organic waste.

In a panel discussion on "Smart Cities: Enhancing Urban Living Through Technology", Dr Jun Zhao, Associate Professor of the Department of Biology, shared his insight on converting urban organic solid waste into hydrogen, which offers cost-effective and eco-friendly hydrogen production methods, creating significant economic, environmental, and social impact on society.

In the “Tech Talks on Sustainability Technology”, Dr Ken Leung, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry, shared his nanofiber coatings innovation in improving the thermostability and acid-stability of pigments essential for energy conversion, while introducing self-cleaning properties. The technology aims to enhance solar panel efficiency, optimising green energy production for sustainability.
