Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) was pleased to partner with the Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong and the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) to co-host a symposium on Curating Cultural Big Data on 11 November 2024.
Prof. Martin Wong, Provost of HKBU and Mr Daniel Freihofer, Consul General of Switzerland in Hong Kong gave a warm welcome during the event, which signified a remarkable collaboration between Hong Kong and Switzerland.
The Symposium was moderated by Prof. Jeffrey Shaw, Chair Professor from Academy of Visual Arts at HKBU. He was joined by world renowned experts, including Prof. Sarah Kenderdine, Professor of Digital Museology at EPFL; Prof. Eugene Ch’ng, Dean, School of Cultural and Creativity at Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC); and Prof. Ari Ide-Ektessabi, Professor Emeritus of Kyoto University. They gave insightful sharings on the digitalisation and augmentation of the TeraPixel Panorama Project and digital technology in cultural heritage.
The Symposium on Curating Cultural Big Data is part of the Swiss Month celebrations. Additionally, HKBU showcased the 360⁰ TeraPixel Panorama of the Battle of Murten 1893/2024, a monumental digital masterpiece by Prof. Jeffrey Shaw and Prof. Sarah Kenderdine, highlighting advancements in digital conservation and immersive technologies.
