The Institute for Innovation, Translation, and Policy Research (ITPR) has embarked on a collaborative journey with Damo Academy to enhance the application of artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies for health science.
In September 2024, Professor Terence Lau, Interim Chief Innovation Officer at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), along with Mr Tobby Fu, Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at ITPR, visited the Alibaba’s Headquarters in Hangzhou to explore Damo's cutting-edge AI technologies in life science and other fields. Following this, Dr Ken Yeung, Director of Technology Translation at ITPR and Mr Fu toured Damo Academy's labs in November to engage in further discussions about potential collaboration opportunities, thereby strengthening the partnership.
In reciprocation, a delegation from Damo Academy has conducted several visits to HKBU's Kowloon Tong Campus. These visits included tours of HKBU's Visualization Research Centre, Life Science Imaging Centre, and several specialised laboratories. Exchange meetings were organised between HKBU professors and Damo's industrial experts to discuss emerging trends in AI for life sciences.
HKBU envisions AI as a transformative force that will empower our research initiatives and accelerate innovation across the university. We aim to identify new projects in partnership with industry, government, and academia, driving AI innovation and incubation efforts to ensure our advancements have significant and far-reaching impacts.
