HKBU's Creative Talents Showcased in Belgian Days 2024

18 Nov, 2024

The Institute for Innovation, Translation and Policy Research (ITPR) of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) partnered with the Consulate General of Belgium in Hong Kong to foster creativity and cultural exchange within the film community. On 12 November 2024, we showcased two exceptional short films by our talented student filmmakers from HKBU Academy of Film, Miss Chan Wing Ki and Mr Wong King Chau, during a special movie screening event as part of Belgian Days 2024.

Miss Chan's film, “Game Rule,” explores the moral complexities faced by a school prefect as she questions the rigidity of rules when her grandmother's illegal street vending is enforced by police. This narrative earned the 2024 Pingyao Corner "Best Student Short Film" award. Mr. Wong's film, “Evil,” delves into the psyche of a dedicated criminologist grappling with his declining mental state while investigating the mysterious disappearance of a former classmate, revealing unsettling connections.

The event also featured films from students of the Institut Supérieur des Arts (#INSAS), enriching the cultural dialogue. An insightful fireside chat moderated by Mr. Wong Sau Ping Adam, Associate Professor of Practice at the HKBU Academy of Film, provided a deeper look into the future of cinema and the creative processes behind these works, with contributions from Ms. Chan Wing Ki and Ms. Jialai Wang from INSAS.

We are proud to witness the creativity and storytelling mastery of HKBU students, contributing to a vibrant and dynamic film community.
