A delegation from the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province visited Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) on 5th December. Discussions between the two sides focused on strengthening exchanges and cooperation in scientific and technological innovation.
The delegation, led by Mr Liang Qinru, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology Guangdong Province, was warmly received by HKBU senior management, including Prof. Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Terence Lau, Interim Chief Innovation Officer; Prof. Patrick Lau, Acting Director, Academy of Wellness and Human Development; Mr Tobby Fu, Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at ITPR; and Mr Edmond Lam, Director of Knowledge Transfer Office.
During the meeting, both parties discussed future development strategies and recommendations for science and technology cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong. This included promoting scientific research, transforming scientific research findings into applications, talent cultivation, and the establishment of laboratories and R&D platforms.
Prof. Alex Wai expressed gratitude for the delegation's visit and outlined the future development direction of the University. He emphasised that HKBU would leverage innovative technologies in the field of arts and technology to continuously promote cultural exchange and cooperation between China and foreign countries, effectively telling the story of China.
Prof. Terence Lau then introduced the latest research developments and interdisciplinary innovation advantages at HKBU. He affirmed that the University would continue to actively participate in science and technology innovation cooperation in the Greater Bay Area, contributing to the establishment of an international technology innovation centre.
Deputy Director Liang Qinru highly praised the research achievements and innovative developments of Hong Kong Baptist University. He expressed hope for further strengthening science and technology cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong, aiming for greater breakthroughs in research, technology transfer, and talent cultivation. HKBU reported the latest progress on the "Guangdong-Hong Kong University 1+1+1 Joint Funding Program," and both parties look forward to the further advancement of the project and its research outcomes.
Before the meeting, the delegation visited the HKBU Kowloon Tong campus, including the Life Sciences Imaging Centre and the Visualization Research Centre to learn about HKBU’s research capabilities in interdisciplinary studies and the field of Art Tech.
