A delegation from Cyberport, led by Dr Rocky Cheng, the company’s CEO, visited Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) on 16 January. The delegation was warmly received by Professor Terence Lau, HKBU’s Interim Chief Innovation Officer, and Professor Jianliang Xu, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Computer Science , and gained a deeper understanding of the University’s ongoing innovative projects. Both parties discussed the potential for joint initiatives and long-term collaborations.
During the visit, the Cyberport delegation toured the advanced facilities at HKBU, which included the Visualization Research Centre (VRC) and the Motion Capture and Visualization Laboratory (BUMCV). At the VRC, they experienced cutting-edge immersive virtual technologies, including the world’s first 360-degree cinema system, while engaging in stimulating discussions on art and technology with Professor Jeffrey Shaw, Director of the VRC. Dr Chen Jie, Assistant Professor of the Department of Computer Science, also showcased his art technology research projects in the areas of motion capture and visualisation at the BUMCV. These tours provided the delegation with insights into HKBU’s advancements in the AI-enhanced experiences.
Cyberport has been a dedicated partner for HKBU, supporting the University’s projects and startups. Moving forward, they are keen to identify opportunities for joint initiatives in AI applications in various fields, such as Chinese Medicine and art technology. Potential collaboration with the Cyberport’s newly established Artificial Intelligence Supercomputing Centre will also be explored.
