Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development Limited and Beijing Tong Ren Tang collaborates to develop novel Chinese medicine

Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development Limited (CDD) – established by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Beijing Tong Ren Tang for research collaboration in the development of novel Chinese medicine (CM).

The MOU signing ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Science Park on January 4. Professor Terence Lau, Chief Innovation Officer of HKBU kicked off the ceremony by delivering a welcome speech. The MOU was signed by Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, Director of CDD and Mr. Chen Fei, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd. Both parties introduced their research domains and exchanged the direction for further cooperation, with an aim at cultivating a drug research collaborative platform for advancing traditional CM formula with technologies and transferring to new drug development. They will join efforts in providing talent grooming programme to support the research platform, thrive and grow the local manpower for the industry.

Funded from the InnoHK initiative by Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the HKSAR government, Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development Limited is set up to pursue innovative CM research and development for its standardisation and internationalisation, as well as commercialisation to turn them into novel CM drugs. The partner Beijing Tong Ren Tang as a time-honored brand of TCM company, provides CM products and services by integrating CM modernisation and its established R&D base in Hong Kong.
