HKBU is committed to providing high-quality education in cinematic arts and creative media, nurturing professionals for the industry. We also actively engage in research and technology transfer in the field, integrating art technology and artificial intelligence into film production to promote innovative development for the industry. This year, we will participate in the industry event FILMART 2024 held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 11 to 14 March, showcasing our latest cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and technology transfer that advances the development of arts and culture, and celebrating the remarkable 15-year achievements made by the Academy of Film!
The exhibition will feature five key research projects applied in film and cultural arts. These include the "Future Cinema Systems" funded by the Hong Kong government with HKD 35.4 million; the "MotionGPT" comprehensive AI motion generation solution; the "BUVATAR" AI-driven digital avatar customisation solution; a dynamic photo animation technology; and AI-driven film restoration technology for classical silent films. In addition, we will introduce five HKBU's art technology start-ups at the exhibition, including BAM Limited , Immersive Unlimited Limited , Lumos Arts and Technology Limited, Minotaur Pictures Limited and Space and Place Limited.
To commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Academy of Film, a celebratory activity titled “15 Years of Cinematic Legacy: Academy of Film” will be organised on 12 March. During the event, we will share the glory achievements the Academy has made and its future development. We are honoured to have invited esteemed guests including CEO of Cameron Pace Group China, Gordon Cheng, and Hong Kong filmmakers Dr Johnnie K F To, Fung Chih Chiang Andrew, Chan Chi Fat Steve and Chan Tai Lee, to join our discussions on the impact of art technology and artificial intelligence on film production and development. The event will also feature an award ceremony for the HKBU Honorary Consultants of the Academy of Film, recognising industry professionals who have made significant contributions to the development of the academy's curriculum.
