As part of the efforts by the Institute for Innovation, Translation, and Policy Research (ITPR) to bolster HKBU’s international ties and pursue global partnership prospects, a delegation from the United Arab Emirates was welcomed on 22 January to the university campus. The visit was graced by the presence of H.E. Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to China, and H.E. Shaikh Saoud Ali Almualla, the Consul General of the United Arab Emirates in Hong Kong. They were warmly welcomed by Prof. Alexander Wai, the President and Vice-Chancellor, along with Prof. Terence Lau, the Interim Chief Innovation Officer.

During their visit, the delegation had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the advancements of Visualisation Research Centre (VRC), where they experienced cutting-edge immersive virtual technologies provided by the world's first 360-degree cinema system. They also engaged in fruitful discussions on art and technology with Prof. Jeffrey Shaw, Director of the VRC.

Furthermore, Prof. Wai and Prof. Lau introduced the latest developments in innovation, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship at HKBU, joined by Prof. Johnny Poon, Associate Vice-President (Interdisciplinary Research) and Founding Dean of School of Creative Arts, as well as representatives from ITPR. Dr Chen Jie, Assistant Professor of Department of Computer Science, also showcased his art technology research projects in the areas of motion capture and visualisation.

This visit not only highlights HKBU’s dedication to pioneering innovation and cutting-edge technology but also sets the stage for potential international partnerships in knowledge transfer, research collaboration, and technology application. It opens opportunities for fruitful collaborations with institutions from the United Arab Emirates to drive societal progress.
