Academic-research-industry collaboration is vital for driving innovation and application for the benefit of society. We are grateful to witness the collaborative spirit of HKBU Interim Chief Innovation Officer Prof. Terence Lau and Hong Kong startup Emerging Viral Diagnostics (HK) Limited (EVDL) in developing the Automated Multiplex Diagnostics System, which has attained notable achievements both locally and globally.
The Diagnostics System has been recognised by the Hong Kong Government and was recently included in the World Health Organization's (WHO) 2024 Compendium of Innovative Health Technologies for Low-Resource Settings. Its ability to rapidly detect over 40 pathogens at a low cost contributes positively to health systems.
HKBU President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Alex Wai emphasises the importance of government and industry support in maturing technology for practical applications. The collaboration between HKBU and our RAISe+ project partner EVDL exemplifies the transformative power of academia-industry partnerships, echoing the University’s dedication to improving community well-being through health technology.
This collaboration has made further strides in advancing its technological development for wider applications through recent strategic partnerships with the China Resources Research Institute of Science and Technology (CRRIST) and GE Healthcare.
