HKBU receives delegation from Bauhinia Culture and Surrich International to foster collaborations in arts and culture

31 Jan, 2024

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has always sought to engage in ground-breaking research and development in the arts and creative media. We were honoured to welcome Mr Xu Zhengzhong, Chairman of Bauhinia Culture Group, Mr Peng Yanbao, Chairman of Surrich International Co. Ltd., and their delegation recently to our campus to learn more about the University’s high-quality education and scientific research driven by our leading-edge creative art technologies.

Accompanied by Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Terence Lau, Interim Chief Innovation Officer, the delegation toured the Visualization Research Centre (VRC) and discussed with Prof. Jeffrey Shaw, Director of the VRC, the applications of art technology in promoting tourism, culture, arts, drama, and related fields. They appreciated the immersive 360-degree cinema system at the Centre, noting the innovative interactions it offers. The delegation also met with Mr Norman Chan, Associate Director of Academy of Film, and visited the Academy’s facilities, including Hong Kong's first immersive cinema/multi-screen cinema MUSES 104 and Asia's first Dolby Atmos Sound Studio. These state-of-the-art facilities provide invaluable resources for teaching and research, fostering practical applications, and supporting the development of cutting-edge technologies.

Bauhinia Culture Group is a large-scale Chinese central state-owned cultural enterprise, with businesses spanning the film and television industry, media production and information services, publishing and distribution, cultural tourism performances, and other fields. Surrich International Co. Ltd is a wholly-owned overseas subsidiary of the state-owned Guolian Group, committed to promoting economic collaboration and cultural exchange activities between Wuxi and Hong Kong. This visit has successfully established constructive interactions between the University and the industry, laying the foundation for exploring potential application collaborations and collaborative research projects.
